Hider Guide — Camouflage Basics
Master the art of painting, posing, and blending into Meccha Chameleon maps.
Core Hiding Principles
- Eyedropper First: Before painting anything, right-click on your target surface to sample the exact color. Never guess.
- Match the Light: Most maps have dynamic lighting. Paint brighter on the lit side of your body, darker on the shadowed side.
- Break Your Silhouette: Seekers hunt shapes, not colors. Use poses (R key) to flatten against walls, curl up, or mimic objects.
- Check Metallic & Roughness: A matte wall with a glossy-painted body is instantly spotted. Adjust the sliders.
- Inspect in 3rd Person: Press 3 to rotate the camera around yourself. White elbows, gaps, and unpainted soles are common killers.
- Hide AS an Object: Imitate paintings, vases, balloons, or food items — things seekers expect to see in the environment.
- Budget Prep Time: Lock your spot in the first 1/3 of prep, then spend the rest refining edges and pose.
- Hold Still: During the hiding phase, do not move. Micro-movements are the biggest tell for experienced seekers.
Common Mistakes
Uniform Color
Painting your whole body one flat color. Real surfaces have gradients, shadows, and texture variation.
Human Silhouette
Standing upright against a wall makes you look like a person. Use poses to become an object shape.
Glossy Mismatch
Forgetting to adjust metallic/roughness sliders. A shiny character on a rough brick wall is obvious.
Unpainted Edges
Elbows, soles of feet, and between fingers are commonly left white. Always do a full 360 inspection.
